My wife and I decided to escape the cold DC weather in favor of some warmer desert air and celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend in Vegas. Our trip started with a comical Southwest Airlines flight, whose flight crew kept calling our destination “Lost Wages.” We decided to stay at the new Aria hotel, part of Citycenter (which is LEED Gold certified – my wife made me add that!) and i have to say that I’m impressed! This hotel is totally swanky and the room alone is amazing. It’s a techies dream. All of the room features are operated by a smart touch screen control system – from the curtains to the temperature.
After checking out the room, we took a walk around the hotel and grabbed some delicious tapas at Julian Serrano, and checked out the new Crystals shopping mall – only half occupied but beautifully designed. Check out the cool stair case and the art installations.
I think the time difference is catching up with me, so i think it’s time for me to get some shuteye. By the way, all of the photos were captured with my two favorite Point-n-Shoot cameras, the Leica D-Lux 4 and the Olympus E-P2 (17mm F/2.8)
Pardon the digital noise in some of the images, the room is extremely dark and the cameras were working hard at ISO 2000 and up….

I was getting a bit of cabin fever this week and decided that i should whip up my family’s famous chicken and root vegetable recipe (plus I was hoping to earn some brownie points with the wife). Now, I know that I’m no Bobby Flay, but i have to say that this dish is a treat. It took a few hours to prepare (not to mention the hour i spent in line at the grocery store) but was absolutely worth it. Take a look at my yummy creation.
